Cheerleading Tryouts Scheduled For April 18-19

Tryout Dates April 18-19

Tryouts will be Friday, April 18th and Saturday, April 19th.  There is a clinic that starts on a Friday at 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm at Foster-Piper Fieldhouse.  The clinic continues on the following Saturday at 10:00 am until 12:00 pm.  Tryouts begin at 2:00 pm.  Tryouts are open to the public with an admission fee of $5.00 for adult and $3.00 for student.

Desired Skills For Tryouts

There are some skills that are desired, but not a requirement for the 2008-2009 Northern Cheerleading Squad.  In the past we have made a standing back handspring a minimum skill requirement.  This skill is highly desired and will help your score greatly at tryouts.  Although, I am changing my approach this year and just placing a great importance on the skill. 

It is very important that you are capable of stunting whether that be as a main base, side base, front spot, back spot, or flier.  Stunting is a big portion of our performance at a game.  Generally we focus on stunting 3 out of 4 days of practice.  If you are a guy wanting to cheer at Northern, it is desired that you can do toss to hands.  If you have any other questions concerning our requirements for tryouts, please don't hesitate to give me a call at 580-716-3125!

*Scholarship Information*

 As a member of the 2008-2009 Northern Oklahoma College Coed Cheerleading Squad, you will support the Mavericks and also earn college credit. Other benefits our cheerleaders may receive are a 15 hour tuition waiver, dormitory room, and books per semester. The complete cheerleading scholarship is equal to approximately $1900.00 per semester. All cheerleaders must meet Northern Oklahoma College admission requirements, pass a minimum of 12 hours, and maintain a 2.00 grade point average each semester.
