2nd Place Winners at 2013 National PTSE Troubleshooting Skills Competition!!

Congratulations to our Process Technology Troubleshooting competition team - the Mavericks!  They won 2nd Place in the National Simulation Troubleshooting Shootout  on May 10-11, 2013 at Kilgore College in Longview, Texas.  Team Maverick is comprised of Justin Bush, Jeremy Batchelor and Jerrod Sharp and was coached by PTEC instructors Julie Allen and Mike Angle.  They were one of eight teams from around the United States who qualified in the April regional qualifying rounds.  Team Maverick was sponsored by Phillips 66 Refinery in Ponca City and the Presidential Partners of Northern Oklahoma College.  The competition was hosted by PTSE (www.ptseonline.com) and funded in part by a grant from the National Science Foundation.

Program Description:  The Process Technology (PTEC) program is designed to provide the student with entry level training to become a Process Technician in the petrochemical and power industry.  The program provides graduates with the following: 

  • A foundation in refining and chemical processing principles
  • An understanding of what it means to operate a unit
  • Respect for safety and environmental regulations
  • Skills for troubleshooting systems

Job Opportunities/Industry Partners:  Current industry partners included include Phillips 66 (Refining, Pipeline, Research & Development), Fractionation Research Institute (FRI), OG&E, Koch Industries, Siemans Chemical, OMPA and others. See links below.

Mission Statement:  To provide foundational principles in chemical processes, safety, operations and troubleshooting through close partnerships with industry and experienced adjunct instructors.

History:  The Associate of Applied Science Degree program in Process Technology was developed in 2000 in through a Oklahoma State Regents 3 year grant and in partnership with ConocoPhillips, British Petroleum, Sunoco, Valero, Sinclair, and other petrochemical corporations.

Troubleshooting Skills Competition 2012

In April 2012, our PTEC troubleshooting competition team participated in the First National Simulation Troubleshooting Shootout  held here at NOC.  The 2012 team included Fred Scholey, George Munroe, and Jared Yaffe and was coached by PTEC instructor Julie Allen.  The Troubleshooting Shootout was sponsored in part by a National Science Foundation Grant and from various industry partners.
